ReplyDeleteI would like to report a miracle story -- some might think of it as only a minor miracle -- connected with BhagavAn SRee-nR^simha-mooRti. It demonstrates that if we have long-term Bhakti for BhagavAn, He will definitely bless us.
It happened in 2006, on the Jayanthi Day of Bhagavan whose avatAram was for the destruction of the demon HiraNya-kaSipu. I observed a water-only fast that day, and for reading at lunch-time at work, I took SReeman-nArAyaNeeyam with me. Its 25th daSakam is on that miraculous avatAram, as we all know.
I had a history with that decad. In my teens, I had tried to learn it by heart after learning the second daSakam on the superiority of Bhakti from hearing my mother recite it. The reason I wanted to learn the 25th was this: Our village's MahA-kshEtRam had BhagavAn NR^simham as the main deity. My mother's father had been the chief priest there in the 1910-s through the 30's. Although I liked Lord Siva and SRee Jagambika very much as Deities, BhagavAn KR^shNa and SRee-rAma also were my IshTa-dEvata-s as they were the IshTa-devatA-s of my mother and my father respectively. But on top of it BhagavAn SRee-nR^simham was very dear to me -- very very dear. It was a SAnta-nR^simha form established at a MahAkshEtRam.
But my attempt to learn ithe daSakam did not work in my teens, perhaps due to my lack of Brahmacharya-Sakti although I had tried for a considerable time.
In 2006, at lunch, I opened the holy book, VanamAla edition put out by the Guruvaayoor dEvasvam, and started reading it. Suddenly, I saw that I already knew the first SlOkam by heart. Then I tried the second one, and that also was there in my memory for no reason that I could find. Then the third and the fourth were there already in deep storage! I could not believe it! I attributed it to the holiness of the day and the blessings of my departed grandfather, mother, grandmother, and father. And to perhaps the miraculous nature our memories. We might think that something is not there, but it might actually be.
I went home and started teaching the four SlOka-s to my son Shiva-Nandanan, who has a photographic memory. He learned the four difficult SlOka-s with an ease which only young brains can master. In the next week we concentrated on the next 6 and by the next week, I was almost reciting the whole daSakam with only an occasional hitch.
In two weeks' time, I learned the whole daSakam and my son almost completely -- all due to the immense anugraha-Sakti of BhagavAn SRee-nR^simham. And of course the gurutva-Sakti of Bhagavad-pAda BrahmaSRee nArAyaNa BhaTTatirippad of MElpattooR.
